"Masked" was inspired by (and the name clearly stolen from) one of the stories appearing in the January 2017 issue of Empyreome: "What Masks We Wear" by Michael Ezell.

I painted the masked individual using digital oils in Corel Painter, then I applied a vortex effect in Corel PhotoPaint to "mask the mask," so to speak. The idea was to create a piece that takes more solid form as you step back from it.
