Empyreome is currently seeking individuals with some background in writing, editing, and/or English or literature studies who would like to serve as readers. The best candidates will have a least some short fiction publication credits (not self-published).
How does it work?
When a new submission is received, the Editor assigns it to at least 3 "readers," who each receive a de-identified copy of the story. Each reader reads the story and completes a short survey, rating various elements of the story and providing rationales for her/his ratings. These surveys are an important input into the Editor's go/no-go decision for that story.
What is the time commitment?
We will work with you to establish a reading schedule that is convenient for you. For example, you can let us know aproximately how many stories (and what length) you'd like to read each week.
Do I get paid?
Unfortunately, we cannot pay our readers at this time; however, we will provide each reader with a listing on our staff page (with a photo and a short bio). Plus, you can add it to your résumé.
Anything else I should know?
Please note that active readers are prohibited from submitting to Empyreome. In addition, if you have an active submission with Empyreome, you will need to wait until a decision is made about your story before applying to be a reader.
